Cross Country

From October through to March, our main focus is cross-country. We participate in two local Cross Country Leagues.
The Chingford League – is run on Saturday afternoons with the senior race normally starting at 2:30pm, there are junior races that start before the senior one. The distance is approximately 5 miles with men and women running in the same race. The venues may include Highams Park, Victoria Park, Alexandra Palace, Epping Forest and Trent Park. We compete against other local clubs.
The Sunday League – these races take place on Sunday mornings (!) starting at 11:00am. The race distance is again the same for men and women being around 5 to 7 miles. Both men and women run in the same race. We compete against local clubs with venues such as, Grovelands Park, Cassiobury Park in Watford, Cheshunt Park, Royston and Digswell
We normally race once or twice a month, with the additional opportunity to compete for the club in County and National championship races. You will need a club vest to enter a league or championship race, they are available from Trevor & Jill Jex, cost £15 it may also be helpful to have a pair of studded shoes. As a club we always encourage members to take part in these race, the standard varies between the elite though to the more “fun” runners, nobody should feel they are not good enough to represent our club.
Fixtures for the 2009 / 2010 season are:

Cross country can be great fun plus a personal challenge, where you take on difficult terrain, mud and hills, in often wintry conditions.
It's also a great base for road racing and overall fitness, enhancing your strength and stamina.
We enter teams for the County & Southern Cross Country Championships each year.
Full details on the cross-country season can be obtained from the Team Managers
