The Handicap is a 5K race that takes place on the last Saturday of each month (except December). The race is open to both members and non-members of TPRC, non-members pay an entry fee of £3.00.
The route follows an undulating circular route through Trent Park.

Each runner has a start time (Handicap) based on their fastest time (PB) over the course. The handicapping system means that all runners have a chance of winning as the results are based on your improvement in performance.
The surface is mainly gravel with approximately 1.5Km on park road and firm although one or two sections may be slightly muddy on occasion. Normal running shoes are recommended, do NOT wear spikes.
Points are awarded based on your position in the race and performance compared to your PB.
The first place runner is awarded maximum points based on the number of participants, second place is awarded one less point, third place less two, and so on, the last runner is awarded one point.
A bonus of five points is added if a runner beats their PB time, and an additional five points are awarded to the fastest lady and man overall.
Trophies are awarded to the first three TPRC club members.
Winners of the 2003/4 series
Points are accumulated from a runner's best ten out of the eleven races in a particular race series. Each series starts in October and ends in September the following year, there is no race in December. Trophies are awarded to top four members and top three non-members at the end of each series.
Briefing new runners at the start of the race New runners are briefed at the start of the race and started at either 5, 10 or 15 minutes according to their estimated run time, this can be varied for particularly fast or slow runners.
The main purpose is to finish as a group and not be too far in front or behind on the first race.
There are no race marshals on the course but it is clearly marked, you can view a map of the course here.
After your first race you will be given a handicap time, this will establish your start time for the next race, if you beat this time the new time will become the basis for your handicap.
Most runners need a couple of races to familiarise themselves with the route, points are awarded for the second and subsequent races but runners do not qualify for bonus points or trophies until they have completed two races.
Race registration opens at 9.00 am and closes at 9.30 am prompt, no entries will be accepted after 9.30. The race starts at 9.45 am. All results are recorded on a computer database and results are usually available 30 minutes after the race finishes.
The Handicap provides a good opportunity for all standards of runner to measure their performance and take part in an enjoyable race.
